Throwing Items
The category or throwing items contains some of the best and most popular items in the game. All throwing items are the same in the sense that you have to throw them to get any effect out of them. A number of these items will deploy after they have been thrown. Others will just only deal direct damage while they are flying. Lets start, shall we?
Motion Sensor Bomb / Mine
Description: This item looks like a little gray disk that is standing
on its sides. Press A to pick up the bomb.
Function: After picking this gadget up, you throw it and it will stick
to any surface it lands on. It will lie flat on the surface once it
is deployed. The throwing part will do a bit of damage. After the bomb
sticks, any person, including the character who deployed the mine, who
happens to move near the mine will get blown up and fly really far away
and having their whole body on fire. The bomb will also blow up if a
projectile hits it. A deployed motion sensor bomb will not disappear
until it has been tripped. Any kills this bomb makes are awarded to the
person who deployed it.
Attack No.1: Mine Throwing
Buttons: press A or R while holding the mine. Tilt or tap the control
stick sideways to control the direction and the force of the throw.
Damage: 13%
KKT score: 116%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Fast
Flight Path: Regular
Range: Medium
Attack Description: The character will throw the mine forward with one
hand. It will bounce off the character it has hit and then stick to
the surface below.
Attack No.2:
Mine Explosion
Damage: 30%
KKT score: 30%
Flight Path: Regular
Attack Description: The mine will explode if any characters happens
to be moving near it or it gets hit by a damaging projectile. The explosion
is very powerful and takes about half of the shield away.
My Opinion:
Motion sensor bombs are pretty useful when you come across one. These
things will easily kill cpu characters who ignore the mines completely.
You'll have to be a bit more sneaky when you are fighting against humans
though, since they will be aware of where the bomb is, if they can see
it. Deploy the mine on the shady parts of stages where others can't
easily spot them, so the opponents will be getting a nasty surprise
when they step on the mine. Remember where you put the mine since it
can blow you up too, and it's definitely more than powerful enough to
give any character a good air time. If you see someone else deploy a
mine, try to detonate the mine. If your character has a projectile,
like Mario or Pikachu, use the projectile to detonate the mine. Detonating
enemy mines will make sure they don't get KOs from these traps. You
can also try rolling over the mines to detonate them, but most of the
time the explosion will still hit your character, causing partial damage
(less than the full 30%). Another thing you can do with the motion sensor
bomb is deploy it on an edge when someone is trying to come back. When
the person touches the edge, BOOM!!! Hahahaha!! I know, I'm so evil.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5. You'll love it if your bomb kills someone. You'll
hate it if someone else's mine kills you.
Bumper
Description: This is a weird looking thing with a yellow ring in the
centre, a white and red ring outside of the yellow and a blue ring on
the outermost layer. Looks like a bumper from a pin ball machine (which
is exactly what this thing is). Press A to pick it up.
Function: You use this thing to bump people around for some pinball
action. You can throw the bumper at someone and it will bump the opponent
away. When the bumper lands on the ground, it will be deployed and anyone
that contacts it will be bumped away. Any kills this bumper makes is
awarded to the person who deployed it.
Attack No.1: Bumper Throwing
Buttons: press A or R while holding the bumper. Tilt or tap the control
stick sideways to control the direction and the force of the throw.
Damage: 8%
KKT: None, constant power
Startup: Medium
Duration: Short
Recovery: Fast
Flight Path: Regular, horizontal, diagonal down, or straight down.
Range: Medium
Attack Description: The character will throw the bumper forward with
one hand. If the bumper hits another character, it will bump the character
backwards depending on what angle the bumper contacted the victim. The
bumper than will fly back towards the person who threw it, so if you
use the bumper up close, it will come back and hit you, bumping your
character away and causing 1% damage. The bumper will keep flying as
long as there are people for it to bump against. When there's no one
within range the bumper will fall flat to the floor and deploy on that
spot.
Attack No.2:
Deployed Bumping
Damage: 1%
KKT: None, constant power
Flight Path: Any direction, depending on how the character contacted
the bumper
Attack Description: Any character who touches a deployed bumper will
be bumped away at an angle depending on the angle of contact. If the
characters came from the sides, they will be bumped sideways and the
bumper it self will slide in the opposite direction. If the victims
come from below or above, the bumper will not move when it bumps the
person away.
My Opinion:
The bumper is not all that useful, and it's just as likely to hurt you
as it is likely to hurt opponents. You don't really need this item since
it will not turn the tides of battle against your enemies. It is not
useless however. Like the motion sensor bomb, you can deploy the bumper
near an edge and it will bump anyone who's trying to grab the edge to
their doom. You can also throw the bumper at anyone who's trying to
come back and bump them downwards, doing a sort of item spike. Other
than these, there aren't any other good uses for the bumper.
Rating: 2.5 out of 5. Generally kind of useless but handy in some situations.
Bob-omb
Description: One of Mario's enemies, a bob-omb is a black bomb with
two tiny eyes and yellow legs. When it first appears, it will sit where
it is. You can press A to pick it up safely, but after a few seconds,
its head will start fuming and it will walk back and forth on the piece
of ground it is on. If anyone happens to be in the way, BOOM!! After
walking around, the bomb-omb will stop and flash a bit and self destruct.
Function: A bob-omb is a bomb. You chuck it at people to kill them.
Bob-ombs are one of the most powerful items in the game and can surpass
even the power of the giant punch. Bob-ombs will explode if anyone hits
them and has a self destruct sequence that makes them a danger to everyone
around them.
Attack No.1: Throwing Bob-omb
Buttons: press A or R while holding the bomb. Tilt or tap the control
stick in any direction to control the direction and the force of the
throw.
Damage: 31% for the bomb plus 9% for the smash throw.
KKT score: 14% (Holy...)
Startup: Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Fast
Flight Path: Regular
Range: Long
Attack Description: The character will throw the bomb forward with one
hand. The bomb will explode if it contacts anything. An exploding bomb
will take most of an opponent's shield away.
Attack No.2:
Hitting the Bomb or the Self Destruct Sequence
Damage: 31%
KKT score: 23%
Flight Path: Regular
Attack Description: If any character hits the bomb with a close range
attack or if the bomb walks into a character during the self destruct
sequence, the bomb will blow up and send the victim flying away and
on fire. Note that no one receives any points if anybody gets KOed by
the explosion.
My Opinion:
Bob-ombs are one of the most risky items in the game. If you manage
to hit someone with it, it will do a lot of damage, but the bob-omb
can just as easily send your character to kingdom come if you don't
watch out. If a bob-omb appears on the stage, either go get it immediately
or don't go for it at all, because the bob-omb will start its self destruct
sequence after about two seconds. There aren't any special strategies
concerning bob-ombs. Just chuck it at the nearest enemy. If an enemy
happens to be holding a bob-omb, jump out of the person's line of sight
or get ready to block.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5. Can give you either very good results or very bad
results.
Green Shell
Description: This the green Koopa Troopa shell found in many Mario games.
It's basically a green turtle shell. Press A to pick the shell up.
Function: You hit it or throw it so that it goes and hits someone else
in its path, just like in the Mario games.
Attack No.1: Shell Activation by Throwing or Attacking
Buttons: press A or R while holding the shell. Tilt or tap the control
stick in any direction to control the direction and the force of the
throw. You can also hit it with any attack and it will start moving
too.
Damage: 28% (does a minimum of 18%. Max damage can't be achieved if
the shell is sliding on the ground.)
KKT: 30%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Fast
Flight Path: Regular
Range: Long (Since it can slide along the ground)
Attack Description: The character either throws the shell with one hand
or hit it with an attack. You can control which direction the shell
flies if you throw but the shell will only move left or right if you
attack it. A sliding shell will go in the opposite direction if it contacts
a wall and can hurt the person who activated it.
My Opinion:
This is what I consider to be a safer alternative to the bob-omb. It
is still quite powerful and you can't blow yourself up with this. You
can hurt yourself with the green shell, but you have to be very unlucky
or try very hard to do so. The bad thing about the shell is that if
you chuck the shell at someone, the target can hit the shell with a
power move and send it back at you, which can mean bad news. Usually
that doesn't happen, but you should be aware of this property of the
green shell. Overall a pretty useful item that can knock people really
far away.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5
Red
Shell
Description: This the red Koopa Troopa shell found in many Mario games.
It's basically a red turtle shell. Press A to pick the shell up.
Function: You can chuck at someone or hit it and it will activate once
it hits the ground. I recommend chucking since hitting a red shell may
be bad for your health.
Attack No.1: Throwing Red Shell
Buttons: press A or R while holding the shell. Tilt or tap the control
stick in any direction to control the direction and the force of the
throw.
Damage: 20%
KKT score: None, constant power
Startup: Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Fast
Flight Path: Regular
Range: Long (Since it can slide along the ground)
Attack Description: The character throws the shell. Anyone in the path
of the shell will be bumped out of the way and shell will fly backwards
slightly. When the shell hits the ground, it activates.
Attack No.2:
Shell Patrol Hits
Damage: 10%
KKT score: None, constant power
Attack Description: After the shell has been activated, it will slide
back and forth on the piece of ground it is on. If anybody, including
the activator, is on the same piece of ground, the shell will go after
the person and give him/her a hard bump that sends the victim flying.
The shell will disappear after about ten seconds of patrolling around.
Any kills made by the shell will be awarded to the character who activated
the shell.
My Opinion:
This is another item that is probably more likely to hurt yourself than
hurt an opponent. Do not activate a red shell by hitting it with a close
range attack because chances are the first thing the shell will go after
is you. If you throw the shell, make sure your target is far away since
the red shell will fly backwards after it hits somebody when the shell
is in the air. The backward flight means that the shell might fly into
you. I don't really like the red shell because it is a nuisance and
doesn't kill all that often. You can try and set up a trap with the
red shell and then hit someone into the shell for some rebounding action,
but it's hard to do. A fun thing to do with the red shell is use Fox's
reflector to increase its damage. Fox can increase the damage to about
40% per hit and anyone who gets hit will receive lots of damage as a
result. Remember that red shells have constant power, so even a 40%
hit won't kill anyone out right.
Rating: 3 out of 5. This thing is more likely to become a danger to
yourself than to your enemies.
PokeBall
Description: A PokeBall is a device used to house Pokemons. For those
of you who don't know what a PokeBall is, it is a sphere that has a
small circle in the middle front, and made up of a red and a white hemispheres.
Press A to pick up the Pokeball.
Function: The PokeBall can thrown against an opponent to cause damage,
and when the ball lands, it will activate releasing one of many Pokemons
that are available in Smash. The Pokemons that come out will not damage
the person who opens the PokeBall but will attack anyone else. I'll
list the Pokemons in a seperate section since there are so many of them.
Attack No.1:
Throwing PokeBall
Buttons: press A or R while holding the shell. Tilt or tap the control
stick in any direction to control the direction and the force of the
throw.
Damage: 24%
KKT score: 43%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Fast
Flight Path: Regular
Range: Medium Long
Attack Description: The character throws the PokeBall. If anyone happens
to be in the way, the PokeBall will give the person a hard knock and
send them flying pretty far. The PokeBall will bounce upwards after
hitting someone. Once the PokeBall hits the ground, it opens and releases
the Pokemon inside.
My Opinion:
PokeBalls are very useful because some of the Pokemons that can appear
are very powerful and can kill your opponents easily. Always throw the
PokeBall at an opponent if you can since some times a crappy Pokemon
comes out of the ball, so you will want to at least do some damage.
Always go after PokeBalls when they appear because they can be very
useful.
Rating: 5 out of 5. Picking up a PokeBall can't make your life worse.
It can only make it better.
Pokemons from PokeBalls
Here is the section where I will list all Pokemons that can appear after a Pokemon opens. Only one Pokemon will appear from one PokeBall. All the different Pokemons have different attacks (well, some of them don't attack at all) and I will list them all here for your reading pleasure. I don't guarantee the correct names for the Pokemons or the attacks they do, since I don't really care and Pokemon is out of date anyways. We'll start with one of the heavy hitters.
Hitmonlee
Looks like: A brown things in a boxing stance with long limbs and no
head.
Attack No. 1: Contact
Damage: 24%
Reach: Short
Flight Path: Straight Up
Attack Description: If anybody except the owner character touches this
Pokemon, he/she will receive a lot of damage and fly up real high.
Attack No. 2: Mega Kick
Damage: 24%
Reach: Long (Hitmonlee can jump pretty far)
Flight Path: Straight Up
Attack Description: Hitmonlee will yell and perform a jump kick against
the nearest opponent shortly after appearing from the PokeBall. The
attack will deal a lot of damage and has a lot of power. If the target
blocks, the kick will either go through anyways or break the target's
shield in most cases.
My Opinion: Hitmonlee is probably close to being the most powerful Pokemon
available. Both of his attacks will probably kill at around 60% or so.
The thing that Hitmonlee lacks is that he can't really hit multiple
opponents at once, since he doesn't really jump very far. In most cases
you are lucky if he even hits anybody. When there is an enemy Hitmonlee
around, start running away or jump real high. If you can't get out of
his range, get ready to roll at the last moment when Hitmonlee is about
to hit you.
My Rating: 4 out of 5
Snorlax
Looks like: A very fat bear like creature sitting on his bum.
Attack No. 1: Body Slam
Damage: 22%
Reach: Long (All the way above and below Snorlax)
Flight Path: Regular
Attack Description: Snorlax will come out of his PokeBall and fly straight
into the air. After a short while, Snorlax will fall from the sky but
this time he will be about 5 times bigger than when he just appeared.
During the whole process, if any enemies happen to get touched by Snorlax,
the enemies will receive a lot of damage and fly pretty far away. The
body slam is unblockable, and Snorlax will go through any pieces of
ground including solid ones (those that can't be passed through).
My Opinion: This is another heavy hitting Pokemon that you can get.
I like Snorlax better than Hitmonlee since Snorlax can cover a lot of
area, so it's more likely that you'll get a hit with him. He'll kill
people pretty easily if he manages to hit someone. If you see an enemy
Snorlax, run away from the big lug quickly or you'll get hit.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5
Charizard
Looks like: A big orange dragon standing on his hind legs and has his
wings spread out.
Attack No. 1: Flame Thrower
Damage: 4% per blast
Range: Short
Flight Path: None
Attack Description: Charizard will stand at the place where he appears
and starts to breath fire left and right for about 10 seconds. The blasts
will push opponents backwards.
Attack No. 2: Contact
Damage: 18%
Reach: Short
Flight Path: Regular
Attack Description: If an opponent touches Charizard during any part
of Charizard's appearance, the opponent will receive significant damage
and be sent flying away.
My Opinion: Charizard doesn't seem that good at first since the fire
breath doesn't kill, but after some experience with him, I found out
that Charizard can do a lot of damage. If a person gets unlucky enough
to be caught between Charizard's fire and his damaging body, the victim
wil receive a whole lot of damage and sent flying. Once during my many
fights with cpus, a Link got caught between a tornado (on Hyrule Castle)
and my Charizard. That Link sustained over 400% of damages and the tornado
finally finished him off. Of course, in most cases, Charizard won't
be able to do that but he'll be able to catch someone and combo the
person once in a while. When you get a Charizard, try to hit your opponents
into the dragon to damage them further. You can also stand close to
Charizard for a temporary shelter if the Charizard belongs to you. When
you see an enemy Charizard, just stay away from the dragon and he can't
do anything to you.
Rating: 4 out of 5
Goldeen
Looks like: A goldfish with a horn on her head.
What does it do: She yells "Goldeen!" repeatily and flops
around on the stage. Goldeen is a fish, and she doesn't do too well
on land.
My Opinion: This is the worst Pokemon you can get. She doesn't do anything
at all except yelling and flopping around. Consider yourself unlucky
when this comes out from your PokeBall.
Rating: 1 out of 5
Mew
Looks like: A cross between a cat and an alien. It's white and it glows.
What does it do: It just appears and flies away.
My Opinion: Another Pokemon that doesn't attack. This one is pretty
rare and you will only see it after you unlock all four secret characters.
Mew can earn you a bonus if it appears during single player mode.
Rating: 1.5 out 5. Still useless, but less pathetic looking than Goldeen.
Starmie
Looks like: A purple sun star (starfish with 10 limbs) with a pink crystal
at her centre and she hovers in mid air.
Attack No. 1: Swift (I'm not too sure about that name, but I think this
is what it's called)
Damage: 3% per blast
Range: Long
Flight Path: None, but will keep the opponent in the path for more shots.
Attack Description: After appearing from her PokeBall, Starmie will
fly towards the nearest opponent and starts shooting stars forward at
the person from her centre crystal. The person who is being hit will
be kept in the line of sight of Starmie and receive more hits from the
stars. She will last about 5 seconds or so. She will only track one
target and won't move further when she starts shooting stars, and she
will fly slightly backwards as she continues to shoot.
Attack No. 2: Contact
Damage: 12%
Reach: Short
Flight Path: Regular
Attack Description: If an enemy touches Starmie during any point during
her appearance, the person will receive damage and sent flying.
My Opinion: Starmie is an okay Pokemon. She rarely ever kills anyone
but it's pretty annoying to get hit by the stars continuously. When
an enemy gets caught by Starmie's barrage, go ahead and combo the person
further. When an enemy Starmie comes after you, run away and then jump
to another altitude when Starmie begins shooting, so she won't be able
to hit you.
My Opinion: 3.5 out of 5
Onyx
Looks like: A big snake made of boulders.
Attack No. 1: Contact
Damage: 21%
Range: Long (All the way from where Onyx appears to the sky above him)
Flight Path: Straight up
Attack Description: Onyx will come out of the PokeBall, growl, and fly
straight into the air. Any opponents who gets hit by him will fly up
with him.
Attack No. 2: Rock Slide
Damage: 8% per boulder
Range: Long
Flight Path: Straight up
Attack Description: After Onyx has disappeared over the vertical boundary,
boulders will start to rain down at the place that he disappeared. Any
enemies that gets hit by a boulder will receive some damage and fly
upwards a little. The rain of boulders is capable of juggling people
upwards because sometimes the enemies get hit by one boulder after another.
The boulders will pass through all platforms and solid grounds. The
move lasts about 5 seconds.
My Opinion: Onyx is another okay Pokemon. The contact attack hurts a
lot and has a pretty good kill rate, but the rock slide attack is more
of a nuisance than a real threat. Of course, if an opponent is flying
really high after being launched, the boulders can potentially juggle
the person over the north boundary. Onyx is definitely not the worst
Pokemon you can get, but he is not that good either, unless he hits
someone on his way up.
Rating: 3.5 out 5 because the first attack is very powerful.
Blastoise
Looks like: A giant blue turtle standing on his hind legs and having
two guns poking out of his shell.
Attack No. 1: Hydro Pump
Damage: 6% per blast
Range: Medium Long
Flight Path: Horizontal with slight downward angle
Attack Description: After coming out of the PokeBall, Blastoise will
face the nearest opponent, yell "Blastoise!" and start pumping
jets of water foward using the guns on his back. The blasts will push
an opponent backward horizontally and with a slight downward angle.
Blastoise will move backwards as he continues to pump out water. The
move last for about 7 seconds.
Attack No. 2: Contact
Damage: 13%
Reach: Short
Flight Path: Regular
Attack Description: If an enemy touches Blastoise during his appearance,
that person will receive damage and will be sent flying.
My Opinion: In most cases, Blastoise won't be able to get a KO for you,
but Blastoise does come in handy in some situations. Blastoise is a
great edge guarder because his hydro pump has a pretty long range and
has a flat launch path, so people who get pumped off the stage will
have trouble coming back. Of course, since you can't control which Pokemon
comes out of a PokeBall, you might not get Blastoise when you need him.
Overall he's okay, but he doesn't kill a lot.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
Meowth
Looks like: A cat with a fat face and has a gold token on his forehead.
Attack No. 1: Payday
Damage: 6% per coin
Range: Short
Flight Path: Straight up, but the coins are weak so the opponent will
be kept at in the same spot to be hit by more coins.
Attack Description: After coming out of his PokeBall, Meowth will hover
in mid air and start shooting four streams of coins around himself.
The streams will rotate steadily around the cat. Anyone who gets hit
by the a coin will be juggled in the air and get hit by more coins.
The attack lasts for about 5 seconds. Usuallly not a lot of damage is
dealt to the opponents, but if an opponent gets caught between Meowth
and the ground below, up to three streams on coins will hit the person,
usually doing over 100% of damage and draw the victim into Meowth damaging
body for the final blow. That is a nasty way to die.
Attack No. 2: Contact
Damage: 12%
Reach: Short
Flight Path: Regular
Attack Description: If any enemies happens to touch Meowth himself during
his appearance, they will receive damage and be sent flying away. Usually
happens only when someone gets caught between Meowth and the ground.
My Opinion: Meowth can be very devastating if someone is unfortunate
enough to be trapped underneath him, but most of the time he doesn't
deal too much damage and doesn't KO that often, because the coverage
of his attack is short. If you have an Meowth, try to hit opponents
towards the Pokemon. You can also stand close to Meowth for a temporary
shelter if the Meowth belongs to you. If an enemy Meowth appears, just
get out of its range and you'll be fine.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
Koffing
Looks like: A purple balloon like thing with lots of craters on its
surface.
Attack No. 1: Smoke Screen
Damage: 3% per blast
Range: Very Short
Flight Path: None really, since the hits are weak.
Attack Description: After coming out, Koffing will spew smoke all around
himself. Any enemy that gets hit will be dragged closer to Koffing and
will get hit by more smoke. The attack lasts for about 5 seconds.
My Opinion: Koffing has the worst attack out of all attacking Pokemons.
The smoke screen doesn't do much damage and it can't kill anybody. It's
annoying to get caught in a smoke screen but you won't receive too much
damage. Well, at least Koffing attacks, unlike Goldeen, who just flops
around. If an enemy Koffing appears, stay out of its smoke and you'll
be fine.
Rating: 2.5 out of 5
Beedrill
Looks like: A big wasp with sharp stabbing cones for its forearms.
Attack No. 1: Initial Contact
Damage: 18%
Reach: Very Long
Flight Path: Straight up
Attack description: One Beedrill will come out of the PokeBall and fly
towards the either one of the side boundaries. If any enemy gets in
his way, the enemy will be sent flying straight upwards.
Attack No.2: Substitute (I think that's the name... not sure)
Damage: 12% per hit
Reach: Very Long (Across the whole stage)
Flight Path: Straight up
Attack Description: After the initial Beedrill disappears off the screen,
a whole swarm of Beedrills will come from the boundary that the first
one went into. One by one they will come fly horizontally across the
stage at about the same altitude (some of them a bit above and some
of them a bit below) of the first Beedrill. Like the first Beedrill,
these ones will fly through any solid obstacles. An enemy that gets
hit by a Beedrill will be sent upwards. The attack lasts for about 5
seconds.
My Opinion: Beedrills are pretty good since they'll probably hit the
enemies a few times. Only the first Beedrill is very strong. The subsequent
ones are a lot weaker but since there are lots of them, you'll probably
hits someone once or twice. If an opponent has called upon a Beedrill,
either go to a higher or lower altitude than where the first Beedrill
disappears and the other Beedrills can't hit you.
Rating: 4 out of 5
Chansey
Looks like: A pink egg shaped creature with a pocket on her belly.
What does it do: Chansey will drop three Chansey eggs from her pocket
and disappear. Each Chansy egg can contain an item. You can pick up
an egg or break it by attacking it.
My Opinion: This Chansey doesn't attack just like the ones on the TV
series. Even though she doesn't attack, at least she does gives out
items. Try to get to the eggs first and claim the good items in them.
Rating: 2.5 out of 5. You might find a good item or you might find nasty
surprise (eg. exploding eggs).
Clefairy
Looks like: A pink puffy fairy like creature.
What does it do: A Clefairy will imitate the actions of another Pokemon
when he appears. The attacks that Clefairy performs usually last shorter,
do less damage, and are weaker than the attacks performed by the original
Pokemons.
Damage: Clefairy will always deal 12% for a contact attack (Hitmonlee's
mega kick, Snorlax's body slam etc.) but the other aspects of an attack
(like Charizard's fire, or Onyx's stones) are identical to the attack
that Clefairy is imitating. Note Clefairy will also deal the body contact
damage when he initially comes out of the Pokeball on all attacks, including
imitations of Mew and Goldeen.
My Opinion: This one is a wildcard, but usually he is not as good as
the original Pokemon due to his weakened physical attack. Of course,
it's even worse if he decides to be a Goldeen and flop around on the
stage. You never know what a Clefairy will do until he starts moving.
Rating: 3 out of 5 since he's inconsistent.
