Background Info
Jigglypuff, also known as Purin in Japan, is the second most famous
Pokemon after Pikachu. Jigglypuff is a pink balloon like creature with
big eyes and no body. His specialty is singing lullabies that put everybody
else to sleep. He then gets pissed off and draws on the sleeping people's
faces with his marker. That's about all that Jigglypuff does.
In Smash, Jigglypuff looks the same as he did on TV, but he is a lot
larger, just like Pikachu in Smash.
He is similar in size to Pikachu on TV and he is similar in size to
Pikachu in Smash, which means he's about three feet tall and wide. Jigglypuff
has a bunch of not so great moves and is as light as a balloon, so most
players regard him as the worst character in the game. I can't completely
disagree with them, but you should know that in Smash, it is possible
to win with any character, if you take the time to practice and experience
the fighting style of the character.
Jigglypuff is a secret character in the game. To be able to use Jigglypuff,
beat the single player mode under any number lives, difficulty, and
continues. After you beat the game, Jigglypuff will challenge you to
an one stock match on Saffron City. Defeat Jiggly and you can access
him at the character selection screens. Jigglypuff should be quite easy
to beat, so you should be able to get him on one try.
Personal Stage: Shares Saffron City with Pikachu
Personal Symbol: A PokeBall
Entrance: Jigglypuff comes out of his Pokemon and on to the stage.
Character choosing: Jigglypuff moves his stubby arms up and down like
he is doing a disco move, then stops and faces the camera.
Costumes
C up: The original Jigglypuff with big eyes, pointy ears, a tuff of
hair on the forehead, a big round head, short limbs, and no torso.
C left: Jigglypuff with a green bow tied behind his back (or is it head?).
This one must be a girl Jiggly. Maybe not since a lot of pet owners
make their male pets wear bows as well, so you never know. This is the
green team costume.
C down: Jigglypuff with a blue bow this time. This is the blue team
costume.
C right: Jigglypuff with a red bow. This is the red team costume.
Moves List
Weak Attack
Buttons: A, A
Damage: 3%+4%
KKT score: Way beyond 300%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Fast
Reach: Medium Short
Flight Path: Regular
Description: Jigglypuff jabs forward with his left "hand,"
then with his right "hand."
My Opinion: This weak combo is useless. No point using it unless you
are going for a bonus in single player.
Rating: 1 out of 5
Recovery Attack 1
Buttons: When lying back to the floor, press A
Damage: 6%
KKT score: none, constant power
Startup: Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Fast
Reach: Medium
Flight Path: Regular
Description: Jigglypuff gets up, picks up his right leg and spins to
the right, kicking anyone behind and then in front of him with his right
foot. Jigglypuff is invincible when he does this.
My Opinion: Not much to say about this really, since its your only attack
option when lying on the floor facing up. Can get Jigglypuff back on
offense if you manage to hit an opponent. Useful for clearing people
who happen to stand too close for their own good.
Rating: 2.5 out of 5
Recovery Attack 2
Buttons: When lying face down on the floor, press A
Damage: 6%
KKT score: none, constant power
Startup: Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Fast
Reach: Medium Short
Flight Path: Regular
Description: Jiggly gets on all fours then rolls forward on the spot
he is standing on, catching people behind and in front of him with his
two out stretched feet. Jigglypuff is invincible when he does this.
My Opinion: It's Jiggly's other recovery attack. It happen less often
than the first recovery attack since most of the time victims of hard
hits will lie face up.
Rating: 2.5 out of 5
Edge Attack 1
Buttons: When hanging on the edge with damage lower than 100%, press
A
Damage: 4%
KKT score: none, constant power
Startup: Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Fast
Reach: Medium Short
Flight Path: Regular
Description: Jigglypuff flips himself on to the stage with legs extended
to kick anyone who is too close for his/her own good, and then flips
backwards once to get into ready position. Jigglypuff is invincible
when he does this. For those who are curious, this is the same edge
attack that Kirby has.
My Opinion: Edge attacks can save lives, if you can time them. This
attack can get edge guarders out of the way and therefore save Jigglypuff
from danger. Use it only if no one's around or the edge guarder is standing
close to the edge. Experienced players will stand a bit away from the
edge if you (as any character) manages to hang on to it, so you need
to evaluate the situation before you use the edge attack.
Rating: 2.5 out of 5
Edge Attack 2
Buttons: When hanging on the edge with damage over 100%, press A
Damage: 4%
KKT score: none, constant power
Startup: Slow
Duration: Short
Recovery: Medium fast
Reach: Medium Short
Flight Path: Regular
Description: Jigglypuff pulls himself slowly up on the stage, then lunges
forward to tackle anyone in front, and then he pulls himself back and
goes into ready position. Jiggly is invincible when he does this. This
is the same as Kirby's corresponding attack.
My Opinion: This is a weird edge attack because the reach is pretty
long. This attack will hit people standing a bit away from the edge
but sometimes misses people standing right on the edge. Use the same
guidelines as above to use this move.
Rating: 2 out of 5
Taunt
Buttons: L when on the ground
Startup: Fast
Duration: Medium Short
Recovery: Fast
Description: Pikachu will turn to his right, wobble left and right and
yell "Jigglypuff!" in a cheerful voice.
My Opinion: This a pretty good taunt. You can easily notice the animation
and the sound is annoying, which is all the better for pissing off your
opponents.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5
Spinning Kick
Buttons: Tilt stick sideways + A on the ground. You can tilt the control
stick slightly so that the kick angles a bit up or down.
Damage: 8%
KKT score: 191%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Medium Fast
Reach: Medium
Flight Path: Regular
Description: Jigglypuff kicks forward with his left foot, then spins
to the right once around.
My Opinion: This move is pretty quick, but it's kind of useless since
it is extremely weak. Don't bother using this move.
Rating: 1.5 out of 5
Ankle Kick
Buttons: Tilt stick downward + A on the ground
Damage: 10%
KKT score: star finish at 153%
Startup: Medium Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Medium Fast
Reach: Medium
Flight Path: Horizontal
Description: Jigglypuff kicks at the opponent's ankle while flattened
on the ground.
My Opinion: Another weak move from Jigglypuff. It's not much better
than the forward strong and is just as useless.
Rating: 1.5 out of 5.
Vertical Kick
Buttons: Tilt stick upward + A on the ground
Damage: 10%
KKT score: star finish at 172%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Fast
Reach: Medium Short
Flight Path: Straight up or close to it
Description: Jigglypuff raises his right foot behind him and kicks straight
upwards.
My Opinion: I told you in the other guides that Jigglypuff is weakened
version of Kirby, and here is a good example. Both puffballs has this
move. While Kirby gets a pretty good deal out of this, Jigglypuff draws
the short straw and gets the crappier one. This move is weaker and
the reach is shorter also. It is not useless though. Jiggly can set
up a juggle with this move, or set up the up smash.
Rating: 2.5 out of 5
Tackle
Buttons: A while running
Damage: 10%
KKT score: 150%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Medium
Recovery: Medium
Reach: Medium Long
Flight Path: Regular
Description: Jigglypuff yells "Puff!" and face plants on the
ground and slides forward to tackle anyone in front of him. This is
the same running attack Kirby has.
My Opinion: As just a running attack, this move is kind of crappy. It's
pretty weak, and the range seems to be a little shorter than other running
attacks. Unlike Kirby, Jigglypuff's forward smash isn't that easy to
combo with, so this tackle is somewhat less useful.
Rating: 3 out of 5
Lunge Kick
Buttons: Smash sideways + A while on the ground.
Damage: 16%
KKT score: 72%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Medium Short
Recovery: Medium Fast
Reach: Long
Flight Path: Regular
Description: Jigglypuff either yells "Jiggly!" or "Puff!"
and lunges forward with his left foot sticking out.
My Opinion: This move is very similar to Kirby's lunge kick, but it
is weaker, does less damage, and has a slightly shorter range. Another
example of Jiggly being a weakened Kirby. Even a degraded lunge kick
is still a pretty good smash attack though. It still has a lot of range
and can knock people pretty far away.

Split Kick
Buttons: Smash down + A while on the ground
Damage: 16%
KKT score: 82%
Startup: Medium Fast
Duration: Medium Short
Recovery: Medium
Reach: Medium Short
Flight Path: Regular
Description: Jiggly will yell either "Jiggly!" or "Puff"
and turns right and does a sideway split. After the split, Jiggly will
continue to turn to the right until he has turned once around.
My Opinion: This smash is okay. It's not too slow and the power is okay.
The reach is a bit short for a smash attack, so Jigglypuff has a higher
chance of missing with this attack. Overall a decent smash attack.
Rating: 4 out of 5
Headbutt
Buttons: Smash up + A while on the ground
Damage: 18%
KKT score: Star finish at 59%
Startup: Medium Fast
Duration: Medium
Recovery: Slow
Reach: Medium
Flight Path: Very steep diagonal for a full hit or regular for a partial
hit.
Description: Jiggly will yell either "Jiggly!" or "Puff"
and rears his big head backwards and headbutts forward and upward with
tremendous force.
My Opinion: This smash attack actually has the same power as the Mario
brothers' headbutts, which means this move is pretty damned strong.
Never knew the puffball had it in him. The primary use for this move
is to send people very high into the air and hopefully killing them.
This move does give a partial hit if the opponent is a bit away in front
of Jigglypuff, but it doesn't happen often enough to become a nuisance.
This is probably one of Jigglypuff's primary KO moves. You can set this
move up by using the up strong or the drill kick.
Rating: 5 out of 5
Toss Up
Buttons: Grab (press R or Z + A) while on the ground, then push stick
forward, press A, press R, or wait for a few seconds.
Damage: 14%
KKT score: star finish at 147%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Medium Fast
Reach (of Jigglypuff's grab): Short
Flight Path: Straight up
Description: Jigglypuff grabs the victim with his left hand, and then
spins to the right and tosses the victim straight up into the air. Jigglypuff
spins twice around before he can do another move.
My Opinion: This throw is not that good. I never seen it kill anyone
in real combat situations. It is not useless however. Jiggly can start
a juggle with that throw.
Rating: 3 out of 5
Suplex
Buttons: Grab (press R or Z+A) while on the ground, then push stick
backward
Damage: 16%
KKT score: 76%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Fast
Reach (of Jigglypuff's grab): Short
Flight Path: Regular
Description: Jigglypuff grabs the opponent and slams the person on the
ground behind him.
My Opinion: This throw looks identical to Kirby's back throw, but in
this case Jigglypuff got the better throw. This throw sends victims
on more of a regular flight path, so it will be easier to send people
over the sides. This back throw is actually stronger than a number of
other back throws and can send people pretty far. It will score Jiggly
a few KOs.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5
Jump Kick
Buttons: A or R while in the air
Damage: 14%
KKT score: 92%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Medium
Recovery: Medium Short
Reach: Medium Short
Flight Path: Regular
Description: Jigglypuff sticks his left foot out in mid air to kick
anyone in front of him.
My Opinion: This kick is actually a bit more powerful than the average
neutral kick, but the reach it has is still a bit short. This is Jiggly's
most powerful aerial move for knocking people over the sides.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
Forward Drop Kick
Buttons: A or R + push stick forward in the air
Damage: 13%
KKT score: 116%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Medium Short
Recovery: Medium
Reach: Medium
Flight Path: Regular
Description: Jigglypuff turns slightly to his right and sticks both
feet forward to kick anyone in front of him. He will then somersault
backwards to get ready for another move.
My Opinion: Jigglypuff is like Fox in that both of them have weak sideways
air attacks. At least Jigglypuff's kick is still acceptable since the
power is still in medium range. To knock people further, use the neutral
A, but this move has a better reach.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
Aerial Roundhouse
Buttons: A or R + push stick backwards in the air
Damage: 13%
KKT score: 116%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Medium Short
Recovery: Medium
Reach: Medium
Flight Path: Regular
Description: Jigglypuff spins to his right and kicks back with his right
foot. He will spin once around before he can perform another action.
My Opinion: This move is about the same as Jiggly's forward air attack.
It's a bit weak for an aerial back kick, but it's not bad enough to
be called garbage.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
Overhead Hand Swat
Buttons: A or R + push stick upwards in the air
Damage: 16%
KKT score: star finish at 93%
Startup: Medium Fast
Duration: Medium Short
Recovery: Medium Fast
Reach: Medium Short
Flight Path: Steep Diagonal
Description: Jigglypuff has his own version of DK's overhead hand swat.
Jiggly will swing his left arm in a back hand swing in an arc above
himself.
My Opinion: I told you Jigglypuff can juggle, and this is his primary
juggle move. This is why some people call Jigglypuff by the name of
"Jugglypuff." Personally I never found Jiggly to be very good
juggler, since the reach of this move is kind of short, and this move
send the victims too high so that either the person escapes or the person
dies. This is more of a KO move if you ask me. However, this is the
second strongest juggling move after Fox's juggle kick and Jigglypuff
should be able to juggle well because he has multiple jumps in the air
to keep himself in position.
Rating: 4 out of 5
Drill Kick
Buttons: A or R + push stick downwards in air
Damage: 3% times up to 10 hits.
KKT score: way over 300%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Medium
Recovery: Medium
Reach: Medium
Flight Path: Pops the opponents up a bit if they are on the ground and
downwards if they are in the air. However, this power is very weak so
that I can't call this move an effective send down. The distance opponents
move rises as their damage rises.
Description: Jigglypuff corkscrews to the left several times with his
feet pointing downwards at a slight angle to the ground. Anyone caught
by his feet will receive multiple hits.
My Opinion: This is similar to Kirby's drill kick except that this one
doesn't spike. However, it is not powerless like the other drill kicks
and can pop people upwards a bit. This quality makes Jiggly's drill
kick a good set up move for his smashes (if he drill kicks the victim
into the ground) and the infamous rest attack, Jiggly's most powerful
move. You need to get the drill kick/rest combo right if you want to
win with Jigglypuff.
Rating: 4.5 ouf of 5
Pound
Buttons: B
Damage: 13%
KKT score: star finish at 195%
Startup: Medium
Duration: Medium Short
Recovery: Medium Slow
Range: Medium Long
Flight Path: Steep diagonal backwards. This means that the victims flies
behind Jigglypuff.
Description: Jigglypuff will yell "Puff!" and bring his right
arm back, then swings his right fist forward to pound anyone in front
of him. A hit will produce the sound of a fan hitting someone. This
move will take down a fully replenished shield in about two or three
hits. Jiggly moves
forward during this move.
My Opinion: This is a weird move because it sends people backwards,
like a fan. Don't expect to kill anyone with this but this move has
some unique uses. If the opponent is at low damage, Jiggly can pound
the person back and forth by using pound, turning around, and pound
the victim again. Jiggly can also sort of juggle people in the air with
pound. Pound is also a very good shield breaker and Jiggly can use it
to stun people by breaking their shields. The last function of pound
is for recovery. Jigglypuff can alternate between a jump and pound to
get more horizontal distance in the air. You need to do this as Jigglypuff
because as you are about to find out, Jiggly has no comeback move. Overall,
this is an okay move that has some special uses, but it's not a very
good attack.
Rating: 3 out of 5
Sing
Buttons: Push stick up + B
Damage: None
KKT score: None since this move isn't really an attack.
Startup: Fast
Duration: Long
Recovery: Short
Reach: Medium
Flight Path: None
Description: This is one of Jigglypuff's original abilities on the Pokemon
TV series. Jigglypuff will start wobbling left and right, waving his
arms and he starts to sing. Musical notes will appear around him and
anyone standing beside Jigglypuff will fall asleep for about 3 seconds.
The range of sing is the area covered by Jigglypuff's full shield radius,
not the musical notes, so people can fall asleep even if they stand
outside of the musical notes. Jiggly doesn't have to be on the ground
to perform this move, but the victims have to be on the ground to fall
asleep. Jigglypuff can get a free hit on the people who are asleep.
My Opinion: In the TV series, Jigglypuff's lullaby can take out everyone
within a few square miles of him and make them sleep for a few hours.
In Smash, Jiggly can only make people within his shield radius for about
three seconds. That is pathetic! Any pros this move has is outweighed
by the cons it has. For one thing, sing last so long so that by the
time Jigglypuff stops singing, the victims would have woken up already.
Oh yeah, this move doesn't do anything to help Jiggly recover from hits,
so when you press up + B in the air, Jiggly will start singing and fall
to his doom. The range is also so short that people can easily hit Jiggly
without falling asleep. Try to do this against Captain Falcon and Jiggly
will be flying thanks to the Falcon Punch. Useless!!!
Rating: 1 out of 5
Rest
Buttons: Push stick down + B
Damage: 20%
KKT score: 29%
Startup: Fast
Duration: Short
Recovery: Very very slow
Reach: Very short
Flight Path: Regular
Description: Pressing down + B will make Jigglypuff glow for a split
second and then fall asleep for about three seconds. Doesn't sound all
that impressive does it? Well, if someone happens to be very close to
Jigglypuff (close as in overlapping Jigglypuff's body) when he glows,
there will be the sound of a baseball bat smash and the opponent will
go sailing through the air and fly far far away.
My Opinion: Rest is the second most powerful move in the game after
the giant punch, excluding items and reflected projectiles. This is
Jiggly's wildcard move. If you get it to hit, the enemy will probably
die, but if you miss, Jiggly is in a whole lot of trouble. In most situations,
you are not going to walk up to an opponent and rest the person. The
best way to set up a rest attack is by using the drill kick. The drill
kick will do some additional damage to the victim and get Jigglypuff
really close to the victim so that the rest will hit. When you drill
kick, watch how close is the target in relation to Jigglypuff. If you
think the target is not close in enough, don't perform rest. Change
to another move such as a smash or an air attack to knock the target
away. Rest is a move that can either make or break Jigglypuff's day.
Rating: 4 out of 5. I have to admit, the 3 second recovery time sucks,
but the move is that powerful and it's fun to KO someone by sleeping.
